MAYOR’S OFFICE

Mayor Gigi Traore is the 10th mayor of the Village of Newburgh Heights since it was established in 1904.  She is the first Black person and second woman to serve in the Office of Mayor.  She was sworn into office on April 18, 2022. Mayor Traore’s administration is focused on meaningful reform pertaining to public health and safety, sustainability, business and economic development.

Her “Vision for the Village” is inclusive of providing quality village services, expanding the tax base, preserving the housing stock, and creating opportunities for the village residents, businesses, and its community partners.

A native Ohioan, Mayor Traore holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work, Black Studies certification from Cleveland State University, a Master of Science degree in Leadership, General Management from Walden University along with certification from Akron University’s School of Law and University of South Florida College of Business.  Mayor Traore is also a graduate of several national political fellowship programs.

The Mayor’s service to Newburgh Heights began in the legislative branch where she served as a member of Village Council between June 2018 – April 2022. During which time she served as Council President Pro Tempore, Chair of the Parks and Active Transportation Master Plan and was instrumental in bringing vital resources to the community, leading on equity and housing reform, as well as business and community engagement.
